It is difficult to imagine a transfer window without Real Madrid but it seems that is exactly what could happen after Los Blancos and their crosstown neighbours Atletico Madrid were hit with bans.
Thursday’s decision from FIFA’s Disciplinary Committee sees both clubs prohibited from registering players, after the Madrid duo were found to have violated several rules concerning both the signing and registering of players under the age of 18.
Barcelona were hit with a similar sanction and it is now the turn of the other two La Liga giants, who will be unable to participate in the upcoming 2016 summer window and 2o17 January one.
In addition to the transfer embargo, Atletico Madrid have also been fined 900,000 Swiss francs, roughly €822,000, for their breaching of rules, while their city rivals will have to pay 360,000 Swiss francs, in the region of €330,000.
FIFA’s Disciplinary Committee are contesting the alleged breach of rules over the signing of minors concerning 39 cases, with the focus on eight in particular.
