Dugarry: Real Madrid star Zidane is a Birmingham supporter

Birmingham City has a new fan in Real Madrid star Zinedine Zidane.

Blues hero Christophe Dugarry has revealed close pal Zidane follows Birmingham's games and is always quizzing him about the club.

"Yes, we talk and he knows about Birmingham," said Dugarry.

"Sometimes he watches games and cannot believe the space the strikers have, the goals that are scored."

"Technically, it is different to what he knows."

"I say that to play here is fantastic, the honesty of the players, the passion of the fans - for me, the best place to play football is in England."

"He knows I am very happy here and he's like 'Ok, you score, Birmingham win, that's good'."

"Also," said Dugarry with a smile, "I think he is happy at Madrid too!".

Dugarry also said, "We are not a Manchester United, Arsenal or Chelsea, but it is important to try and improve every year."

"If you don't, then you will go down to the First Division. For me, it is better to bring good players in progressively, not all at once."

"If, for example, we did what Bolton have done and sign a lot at once it can create problems and bring more pressure if you begin to lose."

"I think it is good therapy for Birmingham to bring in one or two quality players one year, then again the next."

"Then in three or four years' time we will be able to compete with those teams at the top of the Premiership."
