Drenthe To Stay And No More To Come In

Real Madrid have ruled out the possibility of allowing Royston Drenthe to go out on loan and have decided not to bring in any new faces during the winter transfer window.

The Spanish league leaders believe that they have a strong enough squad to continue chasing silverware after splashing out last summer to bolster Bernd Schuster's options.

One of the arrivals at the start of the campaign was Drenthe, who was prised from Feyenoord, but he has yet to become a regular in the Madrid side this term.

Reports last month suggested that Los Merengues were preparing to allow the Dutch starlet to go out on loan and that several clubs had already made enquiries.

As well as a possible return to Feyenoord for six months, Fiorentina were also said to be very interested in taking him to Serie A.

Drenthe's name appeared on a list of players named by Marca, that they claimed Madrid were ready to off-load in January, but that now appears well wide of the mark.

According to reports in Italy, the Viola were told that there will be no loan deal, but may still go back at the end of the campaign with an offer of €10m for his services.

Whether that works remains to be seen, but Madrid are set to have a quiet month on the transfer front, despite the ongoing rumours.
