Drenthe: I can't let Real Madrid train pass me by

Feyenoord wing-back Royston Drenthe wants a move to Real Madrid.

AS says Drenthe made his ambitions clear to former Feyenoord coach Erwin Koeman at the end of last season when Real first made their interest known.

"Coach, if this is true, then I know this train only comes around once in a lifetime and even at 20 years of age I cannot let it pass by," Drenthe reportedly told Koeman in a text message conversation.

"It is Real Madrid. And if my progression is cut, then within two years they will not want me."

Real are willing to meet Feyenoord's £7 million asking price and president Ramon Calderon said: "It seems that the Drenthe operation is going very well and it could be closed in hours."

"They tell me that he is a fantastic player and I hope that everything goes well and a fast transfer can be concluded. Two or three more players will come."
