Dream debut for Cassano

Real Madrid striker Antonio Cassano scored on his debut to clinch a 1-0 win over Real Betis in the Copa Del Rey quarter-final first leg.

Cassano had a simple task as he netted his first goal since arriving from AS Roma, rolling the ball into an empty net three minutes after his introduction as a 62nd-minute substitute.

Betis argued that Cassano had come from an offside position and impeded goalkeeper Toni Doblas on his was to scoring but the referee waved the appeals away and Madrid endured a tense finish to ensure themselves an advantage for the second leg.

Meanwhile, Espanyol enjoyed a 2-0 win over Cadiz in their quarter-final first leg clash. In the 51st minute, Walter Pandiana got his first goal for the club since joining from Birmingham City before Fredson Camara added a second shortly before full time.
