Don't discount Roma, says elated Capello

Fabio Capello is convinced his AS Roma side can still qualify for the quarter-finals of the Champions League after making Valencia suffer in a 3-0 victory away to the Spanish champions.

Roma racked up their first points in Group B on Wednesday thanks to a performance inspired by Francesco Totti, who scored the opening two goals and set up the third for Emerson.

They remain bottom of their second phase group but they are just three points behind joint-leaders Arsenal and Ajax Amsterdam. With games still to come against those two sides a famous comeback remains possible. "We're not dead yet," Capello warned his rivals after a brilliant win. "We now just need the results to go our way."

"We've played well in a lot of other games only for the results to go badly. Now we have a better chance of making the quarter-finals."

"We played a great game to beat Valencia, stopping them from playing down the wings and close to the box. We played with a lot of quality and we made Valencia suffer."

Valencia coach Rafa Benitez admitted his side had played poorly but said he remained confident of making the last eight.

"Winning our two remaining games will take us through," Benitez said. "We'll continue fighting and giving it everything in this competition."

"We let the game slip through our fingers little by little tonight. We dominated early on but from the moment they scored their first goal we played badly."

"We left far too many spaces for a side that likes to play on the counter-attack."
