Deportivo set up King's Cup semi-final with Espanyol

Deportivo Coruna booked a King's Cup semi-final showdwon with Espanyol by beating Valencia 2-1 on aggregate as they completed their abandoned quarter-final tie at the Mestalla on Wednesday.

Depor's 1-0 first leg win proved decisive as the return match finished 1-1 with Victor's 70th-minute penalty cancelling out David Villa's first-half strike.

The teams finished the last 46 minutes of the tie, which had been abandoned just after Villa scored last Wednesday when a linesman was hit on the head by an object thrown from the crowd.

The Spanish Football Federation ruled that the game should continue from where it left off but this time behind closed doors in Valencia's stadium.

The match kicked off for one minute before stopping for a five-minute halftime break and then resumed in normal fashion.

Quique Sanchez Flores's side took the game to Depor despite being a man light after defender Carlos Marchena was sent off eight minutes into the first half of last week's match.

But the visitors were awarded a penalty in the 70th minute after Depor striker Senel was pulled back by David Albelda. Victor sent the keeper the wrong way from the spot.

Espanyol have home advantage in the first leg of the semi-final to be played on Feb. 8.
