Deportivo on verge of landing Mascherano

Deportivo La Coruna are set to land River Plate midfielder Javier Mascherano in January.

The Argentina international has discussed a move to Spain with his family and close friends and is now ready to leave River when the winter market opens.

Real Madrid have cooled their interest in Mascherano as they focused on the signing of Santos superstar Robinho. Barcelona have also switched sights to Europe in their bid to bring in a new midfielder.

Depor have already agreed a £6.5 million fee with River for the 21 year-old and unless the bid is bettered before mid-December, Mascherano will be on his to the Riazor after Christmas.
