Dean Huijsen identifies Real Madrid priority ahead of Leipzig and Barcelona fixtures: ‘An important week for us

Dean Huijsen has underlined the importance of Real Madrid’s upcoming fixtures after their 4-1 victory over Sevilla, with the defender turning his attention towards Wednesday’s Champions League meeting with RB Leipzig and the subsequent El Clasico against Barcelona.

Speaking to Real Madrid’s official media after the win at the Santiago Bernabeu, Huijsen stressed the need to approach the demanding schedule one match at a time.

The Spanish defender also highlighted the significance of playing at home, welcomed Eder Militao’s return from injury and explained why securing three points against Leipzig could prove crucial to Madrid’s European campaign.

“We’re looking forward to what’s next,” he began saying.

“We have the Champions League on Wednesday, we’re taking it one step at a time, and then we play Barcelona. It’s an important week for us.”

Real Madrid face a significant test across two competitions, with the Leipzig encounter offering an opportunity to strengthen their position in the Champions League before attention shifts to the domestic showdown with Barcelona.

Huijsen acknowledged the importance of the European fixture, explaining that another victory would bring Real Madrid closer to securing a place among the competition’s top eight teams in the league phase.

“If we get 9 points [from three wins in UCL], we’d be close to the top 8 and practically in, although I don’t want to say it too strongly. It’s very important for us.”

Huijsen also spoke about the experience of playing at the Santiago Bernabeu, describing the stadium as a special venue for the players.

“Everyone prefers to play at home. It’s obvious. The Bernabeu is a historic stadium and it’s very nice to play here.”

The defender was also asked about the quality of the goals scored against Sevilla, with Real Madrid producing an impressive attacking display in their 4-1 victory.

I can’t do that. We can all see that they’re top-class players and we’re delighted to have them in the team.”

Another positive for Madrid was Militao’s return to action after a lengthy spell on the sidelines. Huijsen welcomed the Brazilian defender back and expressed confidence in what he could contribute to the squad.

“We all know what sort of player he is, and if the crowd gives him a standing ovation, it’s for a reason.

“We’re delighted he’s back – he’s a great bloke and a great player. He’s going to bring a lot to the team,” he concluded.
