Dani Carvajal talks Cristiano Ronaldo, Vinicius, Mbappe, El Clasico: ‘He brings a lot of joy’
Real Madrid has seen many legends grace its jersey over the years, but few represent the values of the club as Dani Carvajal did.
Real Madrid has seen many legends grace its jersey over the years, but few represent the values of the club as Dani Carvajal did.
The former Real Madrid captain left the club in the summer after Los Blancos decided it was time to move on from the old guard, especially owing to his poor injury record.
Yet, it was never in doubt that the veteran still has a few good years in his boots, and Getafe have now signed him, seeing the same merit.
Speaking to the media in a recent interview, the former Real Madrid captain opened up on how he missed playing for the club, especially the big comeback nights which used to pump adrenaline in him.
“I would pay a fortune to experience another remontada at the Bernabéu.”
“There are days when after I drop my kids at school, I almost take the wrong turn and drive to Valdebebas,” he added.
The player then went on to remember how he used to connect with Cristiano Ronaldo on the field and what the legend used to say to him.
“Cristiano Ronaldo used to tell me during important Champions League matches: ‘Look, when you attack, just set the ball up for me, I will be there’.”
“I’d then say, ‘Man, I’ll take on anyone and set all balls for you’,” he laughingly replied.
Finally, he gave his two cents on Ronaldo reaching 1000 career goals.
“Cristiano Ronaldo will reach 1000 goals, for sure.”
Years after teaming up with Ronaldo, the full-back also had the chance to share the field with Kylian Mbappe. On the Frenchman and his abilities, he said,
“He was a monster in the box. Kylian Mbappe is a beast. He was incredible in El Clasico.”
“I’ve also watched some highlights where you just cannot score any better than that,” he added.
Remembering how lethal Mbappe was in El Clasico, the former captain said,
“Cubarsi cut him off a couple of times, grabbed him, and even so, Kylian still managed to score.”
“He scores by leaving the defenders in the dust. In terms of natural ability, he is one of the strongest I have ever seen,” he added
The right-back then spoke on Vinicius Jr. and the player’s struggles this season.
“Vini Jr. is a fantastic person. He brings a lot of joy to the dressing room.”
“He has never hesitated to carry the team on his shoulders, to ask for the ball when matches were at their toughest, and that’s something to be valued. He is a player who never hides,” he added.
On the player’s situation and his red card recently, he said,
“I think that objectively, right now, with the sending-off the other day, with the doubts about whether he should play or not, it’s not a pleasant situation for absolutely anyone.”
He then backed the player to recover his former level and come back stronger.
“But Vini has bounced back from more difficult situations. He needs to stay calm; he just renewed his contract, he has years ahead of him, he’s a spectacular player.”
“We will see that unstoppable Vini again very soon,” he added.
Finally, the player expressed his surprise at seeing Real Madrid play the Clasico with such a clean plan and perfect execution.
“I did not expect Madrid to play so well. I was pleasantly surprised. Mourinho’s approach was very brave.”
He concluded by pledging his allegiance to the club for life.
“I was born a Madridista and I will die a Madridista.”
