Copa del Rey Third Round Wrap: Terrassa Fightback Shocks Madrid

Second division Terrassa made a dramatic comeback to earn an impressive 3-3 draw with Real Madrid at the Estadio Olimpico.

Javier Portillo gave the visitors the lead in this first leg, in which Madrid fielded a virtual second string. But Haruna Babangida, on loan from Barcelona, levelled for Terrassa 18 minutes into the second half.

As Madrid stepped up the pace, Guti looked to have killed the game off with two goals in quick succession. But the Catalan side were not to have their big moment spoiled and Monty wrote himself into the record books to score on 81 and 84 minutes to set up an exciting return game in the Bernabeu next week.

Atletico Madrid look to have killed off any hopes that Segunda A side Xerez had of causing an upset. The Andalucian side, coached by former Atleti hero Bernd Schuster, succumbed to a Demetrio Albertini strike after half an hour and now face an uphill task to progress by winning in El Calderon.

Mallorca and Valladolid shared four goals as they drew 2-2 in Son Moix in an action-packed encounter. Harold Lozano gave the Balearic Islanders the lead after just 13 minutes, but More drew the visitors level before the break. Walter Pandiani then put the home side back in front and once again Valladolid pegged them back with a goal from Sergio Pachon five minutes from time. Mario was sent off for the visitors a minute later, but the Castillian side held on for a draw.

Sevilla cruised past the challenge of Numancia as Gerardo Torrado, Jose Antonio Reyes and Fredi gave them a 3-1 first leg advantage. Miguel Perez had levelled for the home side two minutes after half time, but the first division side proved to be strong.

Osasuna also had few problems as they hammered local non-league side Real Union 4-0 in Irun. Brit netted twice for Javier Aguirre's side and Paqui and Pipa Gancedo completed the rout.

The games between Betis and Recreativo and Murcia and Alaves both ended goalless.
