Copa Del Rey Report: Madrid Into Last Eight

Despite an emphatic 4-2 scoreline, Real Madrid never found this game and rarely found their familiar passing game as Terrassa fought until the final whistle.

Fernando Hierro was the only first team regular on display and the makeshift Madrid side often looked disjointed.

But they did enough to see off the brave fight of their Catalan opponents with goals from Albert Celades, Hierro, Javier Portillo and Steve McManaman.

Before the goals came though, Terrassa managed four shots at Cesar in Madrid's goal before the home side recorded their first.

Despite their pressure though, the Segunda A outfit failed to penetrae and it was left to ex-Barcelona midfielder Celades to show them the way.

He ran onto Tote's pass before slotting the ball under the keeper and into the far corner.

Terrassa's first leg hero Monty went close on two occasions, before his defenders spoiled all the hard work by conceding a penalty nine minutes before the interval, which Hierro calmly stroker home.

Monty was not to be outdone and he produced the goal of the night in the second period as he steered a superb long-range shot around the defence and Cesar to put Terrassa back in the tie.

But as Terrassa pushed forward, Madrid found more and more space in attack and took advantage of it.

McManaman threaed a pass to Portillo who the target, but only after the ball took a wicked deflection.

With five minutes remaining, McManaman again reminded Del Bosque what he was capable of with a fine goal. After pulling down a high punt forward he made his way into the area before lifting the ball into the top corner of the goal.

There was still time for the visitors to net a consolation as Cristian's free-kick flew off a teammate before rolling past the stranded Cesar.
