Chelsea want Makelele

English Premiership side Chelsea are set to make an official approach to Real Madrid for their French international midfielder Claude Makelele, his agent Marc Roger revealed.

Roger was in Madrid locked in talks with Real's sporting director Jorge Valdano, and Spanish radio reports said Wednesday that the two were talking terms based on a ten million euro transfer fee with Makelele hoping to net a deal matching the reported 125,000 euros he earns a month with Real.

Congo-born Makelele, 30, joined Real in 2000 after two seasons with Celta Vigo, having earlier made his name with French league side Nantes.
