Chelsea to push for Real Madrid defender as replacement for departing stars

Eder Militao is top of Chelsea’s list of transfer targets for this summer, and has been specifically requested by Thomas Tuchel.

That’s what AS in Spain are reporting today, and it’s enough of a new story to get our attention. They write that the club have accepted that Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen will be going, and have thus decided to go all in on a big name at a big club.

Militao is a good player, and it’s easy to see how he fits as a Rudiger replacement, but prising him away from Real Madrid will be a phenomenal challenge.

He’s settled in as Carlo Ancelotti’s first choice alongside David Alaba at the back, and is finally showing the potential that they paid Porto big money for just a couple of years ago.

His contract doesn’t expire until 2025, so it’s going to be expensive on all fronts – and that’s all assuming the Brazil international wants to make the move at all.
