Chelsea to make Real Madrid's Roberto Carlos highest paid

Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich has made a fresh move for Real Madrid star Roberto Carlos.

Abramovich is keen to bring the Brazilian international to Stamford Bridge next season and knows the wing-back has put off contract talks with Real until the summer.

The Russian billionaire is prepared to make Roberto Carlos the highest paid player in the world, with a four-year contract worth £4.75 million-a-season.

The offer is six times what Roberto Carlos is currently earning at Real, with the Madrid club's wage cap being £2 million-a-year.
