Chelsea to bid for in-form Real Madrid striker Morientes

Chelsea boss Claudio Ranieri will turn to Real Madrid centre-forward Fernando Morientes if he fails in his bid to land one of Inter Milan pair Christian Vieri and Hernan Crespo.

Morientes is available for transfer at Real, but has maintained a place in Carlos Queiroz's squad thanks to some outstanding displays in preseason games.

Despite being available, the Spanish international is actually being played more by Queiroz than Real super-kid Javier Portillo.
