Chelsea make £40 million bid for Manchester and Liverpool target from Real Madrid

Chelsea have made a £40 million bid to sign Real Madrid and Germany midfielder Toni Kroos, but Liverpool and Manchester United remain interested, according to reports.

Spanish news outlet Fichajes and the Daily Star claim Chelsea have made a move after Kroos became unhappy about his lack of playing time at the Bernabeu.

But a battle could begin, with the Express claiming Manchester United are weighing up a £38.7 million move for the Real Madrid man.

Kroos, 26, made his name at Bayern Munich, where he played an instrumental role in their treble-winning team in 2012-13, before making a big-money move to Madrid.

But he has apparently become frustrated at his lack of playing time at Real over the past year.

With 62 caps for Germany under his belt already, the experienced and talented Kroos could bolster Chelsea's midfield - which has seen Cesc Fabregas and Nemanja Matic struggle for form this season - and would bring some world-class appeal to the Premier League.
