Chelsea locked in Real Madrid talks last night for Makelele

Chelsea were locked in talks with Real Madrid last night over a £10 million deal for midfielder Claude Makelele.

Officials from both clubs met in Monaco for the Champions League draw to discuss Makelele's transfer.

"Nothing has happened so far, nothing has been signed," said Madrid commercial director Emilio Butragueno.

"We will miss Makelele if he leaves because he is a very good player, but I believe Real Madrid has the resources to fill any gap in the squad so I am not worried."
