Chelsea agree £9M Makelele fee with Real Madrid

Chelsea have agreed a £9 million fee with Real Madrid for midfielder Claude Makelele.

The Independent says Chelsea struck the deal last night after earlier having a £7.5 million offer rejected.

Chelsea officials have also agreed personal terms with Makelele, who will earn £50,000-a-week if he agrees to move to Stamford Bridge.

The Frenchman's agent, Marc Roger, told reporters in Madrid yesterday that the player was unhappy with his pay at Real and would leave if he did not receive an increase.
