Champions League Report: Real Come Back To Earn Draw In Greece

Guti scored a second-half equaliser to prevent Real Madrid going down to a shock defeat to AEK Athens in Greece.

Vassilis Tsartas put the Greeks ahead after just six minutes when his retaken free-kick beat Iker Casillas.

Zinedine Zidane, though, equalised on the quarter-hour mark with a well struck effort.

Real looked vulnerable in defence and in the 24th minute a corner from Tsartas was headed home by Christos Maladenis. Just four minutes later it was 3-1 as yet another Tsartas set-piece was finished off by Demis Nikolaidis

Real looked menacing in attack, though, and Zidane reduced the arrears in the 40th minute when he converted from close range.

Raul almost gave Real the lead in the second-half when firing against the bar, while at the other end Nikolaidis lobbed Casillas only to see the ball roll just wide.

On the hour Real were level when Guti got in front of his marker to convert a Roberto Carlos cross.

Both sides tried to win the game from then on but after six goals in an hour, the spectators had to settle for a scoreless last 30 minutes.
