Champions League Reaction: We Paid Too Heavy A Price, Moans Sammer

Borussia Dortmund coach Matthias Sammer painted a jaded figure after a last-gasp goal by Real Madrid starlet Javier Portillo denied his side a precious victory against the European Champions on Tuesday.

"The team certainly put out a very good performance but every mistake at this level gets punished," he lamented. "The price we continuously pay for our mistakes is too high, however. It seems like the gods have conspired against us."

The German champions are no longer in control of their own fate following the 1-1 tie and must hope for a Real Madrid slipup in the race to finish second in Group C behind AC Milan.
