Champions League matches in Group D

Team news and probable line-ups for Wednesday's Group D matches in the second phase of the Champions League:

The spotlight will be firmly on England midfielder David Beckham, who suffered a calf injury in Saturday's FA Cup defeat by Arsenal, minutes before being struck by a boot kicked by Alex Ferguson manager in the dressing room. If Beckham does not play, for either reason, Nicky Butt will probably get the nod over Phil Neville as his replacement, with Norwegian forward Ole Gunnar Solskjaer moving to the right flank.

As in earlier Champions League games, Ruud van Nistelrooy will operate as a lone striker, with Paul Scholes playing behind the Dutchman but in front of the midfield.

Juan Sebastian Veron is suspended, enabling the Argentine midfielder to rest a damaged toe, while French defender Laurent Blanc is sidelined by a calf injury. South African midfielder Quinton Fortune is still working his way back to fitness after a broken leg.

Already missing inspirational striker Alessandro Del Piero with a thigh injury, Juventus have now been hit by influenza which has ruled out five players -- keeper Gianluigi Buffon, defender Alessandro Birindelli, midfielder Gianluca Zambrotta and strikers Marco Di Vaio and Marcelo Salas.

Marcello Lippi is also without defender Mark Iuliano, who has a high temperature. France's David Trezeguet should be paired with Uruguayan Marcelo Zalayeta up front.

BASEL vs. DEPORTIVO CORUNA

Basel will be without midfielders Antonio Esposito and Ivan Ergic after they were sent home from a winter break training camp in Turkey last month with injuries.

Esposito, 30, had surgery on a troublesome calf injury and an Achilles problem, while Ergic has been unable to train after suffering a reaction to a knee injury after surgery in December.

Coach Christian Gross expects central defender Murat Yakin to play after coming through 45 minutes of a 3-0 friendly defeat against FC Zurich on Saturday following a knee injury. Australian midfielder Scott Chipperfield is back after missing the first half of the season.

Depor will be without influential midfielder Mauro Silva, who has a leg muscle strain, as they aim for the first of what they hope will be back-to-back wins against Basel.

Portuguese centre-back Jorge Andrade is now fit but coach Javier Irureta may opt for the experience of Donato alongside Noureddine Naybet at the heart of the defence.

For the time being, Juanmi will continue in goal in place of Jose Molina, who is back in training after receiving treatment for testicular cancer.
