Champions League matches in Group C

Team news and probable line-ups for Wednesday's Group C matches in the second phase of the Champions League:

REAL MADRID vs. BORUSSIA DORTMUND

Real need a win after an away defeat by AC Milan and a tame draw at home to Lokomotiv Moscow. Coach Vicente del Bosque is also hoping his world-renowned players turn in a more committed display than in Sunday's 1-0 league defeat at Osasuna.

Captain Fernando Hierro has damaged ligaments in his right knee and will probably miss all four of Real's remaining second-phase games.

That will mean Francisco Pavon playing alongside Ivan Helguera in the centre of defence but otherwise Del Bosque will be able to name his first-choice line-up.

Dortmund go into the game after their biggest home win since August 2001, a 4-1 drubbing of VfL Bochum. Czech striker Jan Koller was involved in the build-up to their first three goals, while Germany midfielder Torsten Frings netted twice and both men will face Real.

Czech playmaker Tomas Rosicky should be fit after straining his Achilles tendon on Saturday. Otherwise, coach Matthias Sammer has no injury concerns.

Sammer said he aimed to field a compact team that would counter-attack -- a hint that he might use a lone striker -- and made it clear he wanted them to avoid any stage fright.

"We must not let ourselves be frozen with awe for Real and all their stars. I'll be hopping mad if we are. We have enough quality in this side," he said.

AC MILAN vs. LOKOMOTIV MOSCOW

Milan's Ukrainian striker Andriy Shevchenko could miss Wednesday's game due to a slight thigh injury.

Shevchenko picked up the knock during Sunday's 2-2 draw with Lazio and he is likely to start on the bench if he is not 100 percent fit.

Fellow striker Filippo Inzaghi, who scored one goal and set up another as Milan fought back from two goals down, is set to lead the line with Brazil's Rivaldo playing just behind.

Another Brazilian, winger Serginho is fit again and could be given a slot on the left flank at the expense of Dutchman Clarence Seedorf.

Lokomotiv will be without suspended right back Vadim Yevseyev and Nigerian striker James Obiorah, yet to fully recover from a thigh injury sustained last month.

But defender Sergei Ignashevich, who missed training last week with a high fever, is fit to play and midfielder Marat Izmailov has recovered from a string of injuries which have sidelined Russia's 2001 Player of the Year for six months.

With Russia's league season in the middle of its long winter break, a lack of match practice has been the main worry for coach Yuri Syomin.

"I would have liked to have at least a couple of games against tough opponents before the Milan match," he told Russian media. "Unfortunately, we weren't been able to arrange any."
