Julio Cesar has finally completed his protracted move to Benfica, where the Real defender will play on loan for the next two seasons.
Following negotiations lasting several days, the Brazilian's loan deal with the Portuguese giants was finalised on Thursday and the 22-year-old will reportedly earn a total of $US 5million over the next two years, before returning to Madrid for the final year of his contract.
Cesar joined Real in 1999 from Valladolid, and last season enjoyed loan spells with AC Milan and Real Sociedad.
"I was getting a bit tired of so many loans but this one is different. Benfica gives me the chance to settle down. Two years is a much longer time. It'd be great to win a title and they're in the Champions league next season," he said.
