Celta add to Real woes

Real Madrid's 1-1 draw against Celta Vigo on Sunday evening has left the champions just two points off the relegation zone in La Primera.

The Madrilenos have not known such a bad start to the league campaign since the 1947-8 season when coach Baltasar Albéniz was at the helm.

Team coach Vicente Del Bosque admitted that his side had problems against Celta at the
weekend but despite the club's 15th placing, he is confident that they can still have a crack at retaining their league title.

"Real want to win the league and they're ready to dispute the title," Del Bosque said after the
Celta game, "There are 29 games left which is sufficient to get back in the running."

The Madrid coach added that perhaps there have been times when his team has not functioned as it normally does and that this was evident against Celta on Sunday.

He added: "The most important thing against Celta was to get the three points, which we didn't do."

"The team worked as a unit for brief moments during the game but there was no continuity - possibly because there were so many interruptions."

"But our players showed great strength especially in the first half when we were trailing from the first goal."

Real's next two games don't inspire confidence, they travel to the Madrigal next Saturday to meet Villareal then the following Sunday entertain long-term rivals Barcelona in the annual showdown at the Bernabeu.
