Casillas in contact talks

Real have made it clear to goalkeeper Iker Casillas that they will not be held to ransom over his contractual desires.

Sports manager Jorge Valdano has made it clear to the star that he will get a new contract if he lowers his demands. Having said that though, Casillas is one of the lowest earners at Real but it's clear that he is a fundamental member of the team.

The 20-year-old keeper has received numerous offers from European clubs and Real are worried that rivals Barcelona may make an audacious bid for the player as revenge for losing Luis Figo last year.

Valdano however has explained that the club is relying on Casillas in the next few years, he will receive a pay rise but in no circumstances will be allowed to name his price.

at present, Casillas receives $US 200,000 from the club in wages plus nearly $US 400,000 from his sponsors for each game he plays with the first team.

Real are expected to offer Casillas a new contract with performance-related bonuses, as was the case with striker Jose Maria Gutierrez.
