Casillas Dreams Of Madrid Presidency

Real Madrid goalkeeper Iker Casillas revealed that when he hangs up his gloves he would like to become the coach of the club, and possibly even the president.

Casillas would like to follow in the footsteps of a number of former Real Madrid greats, who first played for the club, and then became its president.

“I want to be the president of Real Madrid. When I finish playing I would like to continue in football, first as a coach of chavales and then if God wants, to be like Camacho, Del Bosque, or Irureta,” he explained.

“Then when I have more experience I would like to be the president. I have been at Madrid since I was eight years old, and I have been a Madrid fan since I was four, that is the reason why I would like to be the president,” he added.

“I have liked the presidents I have had, but Di Stefano talks to me a lot about how Santiago Bernabeu used to do it, and I would have liked to have met him.” 

Casillas concedes his dreams are far away in the future, and believes he has many years remaining in his playing career at the top level.

“I think I will still be in good shape at 35, but I would like to play until I am 38," he stated.

"I don’t want to move from Real Madrid. I have seen what has been published about me renovating my contract, but I am very happy with what I have right now.”

Casillas made his professional debut with Real Madrid's first team in 1999, he is already considered by many as the club's greatest ever goalkeeper, at just 26 years of age.
