Casillas: Arbeloa, De la Red could've made it at Real Madrid

Real Madrid goalkeeper Iker Casillas admits Ruben de la Red and Alvaro Arbeloa had to leave the club to break into the Spain squad.

De la Red, the Getafe midfielder, and Liverpool fullback Arbeloa both came through the Real youth system, but failed to make the first team at the Santiago Bernabeu. Casillas, who welcomed his ex-teammates to the Spain squad this week, commented: "I have no doubt both would have triumphed with Real if they had been given opportunities because they are valuable players for their teams and probably would have been for Real Madrid also."

"But this always happens with the players from the juniors, because the club focuses on signings from outside rather than at home."
