Carlo Ancelotti has offered some hope to Liverpool and other top Premier League clubs that Kylian Mbappe could still be on the market this summer after hinting that Real Madrid may not need to sign the superstar Frenchman.
World Cup winner Mbappe is out of contract at Paris Saint-Germain at the end of the season, making him one of the most wanted players in European football this summer. Recent reports have claimed that Los Blancos have already convinced the 25-year-old to move to the Spanish capital this summer but Madrid boss Ancelotti does not sound convinced, claiming that he already has the 'six best players in the world'.
Speaking indirectly about Mbappe, as per the Mirror, Ancelotti said: "You keep asking about a player who plays for another team. We already have the best players in the world here. In order: Vini Jr first, Jude Bellingham second, Rodrygo third. Then Toni Kroos, Federico Valverde, Eduardo Camavinga…"
Ancelotti's downplaying of a move for the PSG striker comes amid reports that Madrid are struggling to negotiate a financial package in the background with Mbappe's agent and mother Fayza Lamari. The Mirror reports that is is claimed that the two parties are "far apart" on agreeing a deal with Mbappe said to be demanding £60m per season to play for the Spanish giants.
Should the move collapse it could potentially open the door for other top European clubs such as Liverpool, where Mbappe may not try to engineer as big a financial package as he is thought to be pushing for with Madrid. Nevertheless, the 14-time European Cup winners remain the favourites to land one of the biggest names in the sport and have a ruthless track record for getting their man. However, Mbappe previously came close to agreeing a move to the Bernabeu in 2022, only to sign a new contract with PSG at the last minute.
