Capello future undecided, says Mijatovic

Real Madrid coach Fabio Capello has until the end of the season to save his job after sporting director Predrag Mijatovic refused Thursday to give assurances on the Italian's position.

Capello has been under fire all season for his negative brand of football and some poor results, although last weekend he guided Real to the top of the league following a thrilling come-from-behind 4-3 victory over Espanyol.

"Capello has another two years left on his contract and he is doing a good job, but we have to analyse the situation," Mijatovic told El Mundo newspaper.

"In June we will know if we need to take another path or not."

Capello arrived back at Madrid for his second stint at the club in the close season but he has come under fire from almost the first day.

The Spanish media has been speculating that he will be replaced by Getafe's German coach Bernd Schuster for next season.

Capello won the Spanish title in his only other season in charge of Real back in 1996/97, but that was not enough to keep him in the job any longer.

Despite his on-field success, the Madrid fans have never warmed to Capello's defensive tactics, nor his signings which included mostly defenders and defensive midfielders in the close season.

Mijatovic did moved to quell specualtion about Capello's future, however he hinted that the Italian would no longer be able to fill the club with combative destructive players, such as Brazilian Emerson and Malian Mahamadou Diarra.

"Fabio deserves our respect and we are preparing for next season with him. But no coach can have the last word on transfers. We work as a club."

Mijatovic also revealed he had hoped to keep former England cpatain David Beckham at the club before the midfielder signed a pre-contract agreement with the Los Angeles Galaxy.

"We couldn't come to an agreement," said Mijatovic.
