Capello asks Real Madrid about Morientes loan

Fabio Capello is ready to renew his interest in Real Madrid centre-forward Fernando Morientes.

The Spanish international was a summer target for Capello, but he couldn't agree a transfer fee with Real for the striker.

Roma want Morientes as a replacement for Gabriel Batistuta, who is now expected to be sold in January to the Premiership.

A loan deal could be on for Morientes, with a view to a permanent transfer at the end of the season. Roma currently doesn't have the cash to meet Real's £16 million asking price.

Capello was in touch with Real officials during the week asking about Morientes current situation.
