Cannavaro: We Can Win The Double

Fabio Cannavaro affirmed that he is very happy at Real Madrid, and didn’t discard the possibility of ending his career with the Spanish champions. He also feels that his side are more than capable of winning the double this season.

The high-profile Italian defender, who joined Real Madrid in 2006, is very happy with the Spanish giants, and could well spurn a return to Napoli in favour of an extension.

"I have another year left on my contract, but I don’t discard retiring at Real Madrid, it wouldn’t be bad, wouldn’t it?" he told Grada Blanca.

"Many times they have asked me about the possibility of a return to Napoli, but I don’t know what will happen.”

As well as this, Cannavaro spoke about the outstanding effort Real Madrid have been making to assemble a competitive team, which he feels is more than capable of winning the Champions League and La Liga double.

“One always has to have an objective, we have to return to winning the league, but the people from Madrid want the European Cup, and so do we players," he added.

"The club has done its part to assemble a competitive team, which could end up winning both titles."

"This year Heinze, Metzelder, and Pepe arrived. Now the team is very strong at the back, and we demonstrated this in Barcelona."

"When the players play like individuals, reaching the objective is much more difficult. Now we don’t depend on the quality of our individuals, like we did with Ronaldo, Raul, and Van Nistelrooy."

“Earlier, lots of players would attack, and only three of us would defend, and because of that we had more problems. A team like ours should attack and defend as a unit, in a balanced way, and that is vital for us."
