Cannavaro Explains Reason Behind Real Madrid Exit

Fabio Cannavaro has admitted that he is leaving Real Madrid this summer because nothing could be done about his future until after the presidential elections.

The Italian will be rejoining his former club Juventus this summer and the Old Lady have already made public the deal on their website.

Talking to Radio Marca, Cannavaro says he will "have Madrid in his heart" and that he has had a "spectacular experience" in the capital, but is disappointed at the lack of success this season.

"Boluda told me that he could not do anything, that I would have to wait until after the elections…What hurts the most is the fact we have not been able to win the tenth [Champions League]," he said.

"Madrid are a club that lives for the Champions League and we have not been at the right level. Right now, we are not at the same level as Manchester United, Chelsea, or Barcelona."

Along with the failure in the Champions League has been the poor recent form in the league, which Cannavaro regrets has come at the end of his time in Madrid.

"It is very hard to play after the 2-6 in el Clasico. Barcelona won the league in the Bernabeu, similar to the way that we did last year. Even so, two leagues and a Spanish Supercup in three years is not bad," he mused.

Finally, Cannavaro was asked about the future of Madrid, saying that both Cristiano Ronaldo and Kaka are "excellent players, professionals and winners".

He was also asked about who he would like to see as coach next season, saying, "I like [Jose] Mourinho a lot. He gets on well with the fans and is good with the players".
