Campo wanted by Inter

Real Madrid have turned down a $US 6m bid from Internazionale to take Ivan Campo to Serie A next term.

According to reports in Spain on Thursday, Inter approached Real 10 days ago, wanting to sign the Basque central defender.
But after considering the offer, Real gave the Italian giants the thumbs down on the morning of their Trofeo Bernabeu match last Tuesday.

Campo, 27, was transfer-listed at the end of last season but the decision was overturned when the club were unable to find a suitable replacement defender during the summer.

Campo's position in the squad is even more important seeing that Ivan Helguera will be out injured for up to eight weeks after surgery on his fractured right foot.

Vizcaya outfit Athletic Bilbao were keen to enlist Campo back in June but the player rejected a move to Bilbao in favour of staying on an extra year at the Bernabeu.
