Campo set for Bolton loan move

Bolton Wanderers manager Sam Allardyce believes Real Madrid defender Ivan Campo will sign for the English premier league club before Saturday's transfer deadline.

Bolton's bid to sign the Spaniard had looked to have floundered last week after lengthy negotiations, due to Campo's personal demands. But the deal now appears to be back on for the 28-year-old to move to the Reebok Stadium on a year's loan.

"He will have a quick medical and hopefully train with the boys tomorrow (Saturday) prior to Sunday's game (against Aston Villa)," Allardyce told Bolton's website on Friday.

"I need to talk to him at great length first to find out how many competitive games he has played. I know he is a fit lad and he has been through Real's pre-season with no problems."

"If he hasn't had a competitive game, it's unfair to throw him in straight away until he finds his feet."

"Campo has played in the Champions League and been with Real in the Spanish top division for a number of years. At 28 he should be hitting the height of his maturity."

"He is very strong, very quick and good in the air. We have conceded six goals in two games and I hope we've got all our bad luck, bad play and bad defending in these games out of the way."

"We need to get back to being a solid unit again and he should be a major part of that," he said.

Bolton are second from bottom of the premier league table after losing their first three games. They narrowly avoided relegation last season, finishing 16th in the table.
