Campo's Bolton move on hold after medical hitch

Ivan Campo's proposed move to Bolton Wanderers has been put on hold following a problem with the Spanish defender's medical, the premier league club said on Thursday.

Bolton had been expected to confirm Campo's signature on a three-year deal at the Reebok Stadium after agreeing terms with the player, subject to the medical.

Instead, they cancelled a scheduled news conference and released a statement saying: "The transfer of Ivan Campo to Bolton Wanderers Football Club has been stalled due to a technicality in the player's medical.

"The club is awaiting further investigation and will make no further comment."

The 29-year-old spent last season at Bolton on a year-long loan from Real Madrid and is now out of contract with the Spanish champions.

Campo started 30 league matches for Bolton and played a key role as the club avoided relegation.

Before the problem arose, manager Sam Allardyce had told the Bolton website on Thursday: "Both parties have reached an agreement and we are very happy to have secured Ivan's services for the next three years. He was a key figure for us last season and will be vital for us next season."
