Campo's Bolton future still unclear

The future of Bolton defender Ivan Campo remains unclear with the Spaniard expected to return to Real Madrid at the end of the season.

Trotters boss Sam Allardyce is yet to confirm whether he will seek to sign Campo to a permanent deal.

The player, himself, is also to publicly commit himself to Bolton next season.

Allardyce said: "Some of our lads have had a real eye-opener by the fact that he can receive the ball in tight areas and deal with the situation."

"People think he doesn't look fit but his fitness statistics are great. His hairstyle doesn't help because it gives him the appearance of being a greater size than he is. He was out of fitness when he came because he hadn't played a game for Real Madrid for 12 months but since then he has got fitter and fitter."

"The unfortunate thing with Ivan is that he isn't blessed with pace but we can't do anything about that. He has to read the game better than anyone else to find the time and the space to play."

Campo said, "It was quite tough changing over from one style of football to another when I first came over but, with the help of the supporters and my teammates, I've gradually got into the speed of the game."

"I think I've been doing better and I'm pleased with the way I've been playing. Hopefully, I'll continue to improve right the way through to the end of the season."
