As Real Madrid fans were reminiscing about November 7 as the day when Cristiano Ronaldo renewed his contract, seven years ago, it was a special day for Eduardo Camavinga.
The young midfielder penned a new contract at Santiago Bernabeu, with the new deal set to keep him at the club until 2029.
Camavinga becomes the third young player to renew his contract at Real Madrid recently, followed by Vinicius Junior and Rodrygo.
"Real Madrid is a dream, it’s my life," Camavinga said after signing the contract. "Since I was a child I wanted to play here and now it has come true. I’m very proud to stay at Real Madrid & play in the mythical Bernabéu."
Camavinga joined Real Madrid in the summer of 2021. Since then, the midfielder has racked up 114 competitive appearances for Los Blancos. He is still only 20.
"It was very quick to reach 100 games, but when I go out on the field I don’t think if I have played 50 or 30 matches, I play for each game," the midfielder said.
During the contract signing event, Camavinga was present with his whole family, including his brothers.
"My main motivation? My family. When I see that they’re very proud of me, I want to play more. When I play and put on the shirt it’s for them, for the Madridistas and for this club," he said.
When asked about a moment he will always cherish during his time at Real Madrid so far, the midfielder responded, "When I came to sign my first contract at Madrid. Also when we won the Champions League, which is the Real Madrid competition. Winning it in my first year is a dream that came quickly."
Apart from his personal milestones, Eduardo Camavinga heaped praise on his Real Madrid teammates, including the young players who now form the very core of the squad.
"We have the same mentality, the same vision of football. It’s easier to play with them," he said.
Camavinga also hailed his midfield mentors in Toni Kroos and Luka Modric, adding, "When you play with players like Modric or Kroos you gain more experience. I like to look at them and that’s why I have more technique and more calmness than in my first year here."
Despite being a midfielder, though, a standout factor about Camavinga has been his ability to operate in other areas of the pitch, including left-back.
Talking about his versatility, the Frenchman said, "I always say that I’m a team player. If you have to play as a goalkeeper or as a Striker to help the team, I’ll play. I want to do as much as possible."
Finally, the former Rennes starlet waxed lyrical about club president Florentino Perez, who played a key role in sanctioning the contract extension.
"Florentino Perez is Real Madrid, with the club’s values. I think he’s the best president in the world," he said.
