Camacho wants Arsenal's Vieira at Real Madrid

New Real Madrid coach Jose Antonio Camacho has discussed the transfer of Arsenal skipper Patrick Vieira with club chiefs.

AS says in his first high-level meeting yesterday with sports director Jorge Valdano, Camacho discussed seriously a plan to prise Vieira away from Highbury over the summer.

Real president Florentino Perez has handed Camacho and Valdano a virtual open chequebook after the disasters of last season and Vieira tops their shopping list.

Having already secured Walter Samuel from AS Roma, Camacho now wants two central midfielders with Vieira his No1 choice.

Also nominated were AS Roma's Olivier Dacourt and Porto's midfield destroyer Costinha.
