Calderon facing showdown talks with Real Madrid stars

Real Madrid president Ramon Calderon will hold crunch talks with senior players this morning at Valdebebas after his controversial speech to university students yesterday.

Calderon was recorded blasting several senior figures, including Guti, Iker Casillas and David Beckham, while he also attacked their massive wages and Real's fans.

Upon learning that his speech had been recorded, Calderon contacted Real captain Raul, who was hosting a players' luncheon. The president offered to visit the restaurant to apologise to the players, but Raul urged him not to and to wait until today for tempers to cool.

Raul, along with Ivan Helguera, Michel Salgado and Casillas stayed at the restaurant until after 7pm discussing how to react to Calderon's comments.

Interestingly, the only Brazilian to attend the lunch was Roberto Carlos.
