Butragueno the next Real Madrid president

One of the big winners from Tuesday's announcement of Arrigo Sacchi as Real Madrid's new general manager is Emilio Butragueno.

While many saw Sacchi's arrival as the end of Butragueno's influence at the club as sports director, president Florentino Perez surprised those attending the media conference by revealing that the 'Vulture' would become Real's new vice-president.

In effect, Sacchi's appointment has increased the responsibility and recognition of Butragueno's role with Real Madrid. From sports director, he now takes on two roles - executive sports director and vice-president.

Perez admitted he has made Butragueno his right-hand man with a view to seeing the former striker succeed him as president.
