Butragueno championed Luxemburgo to Real Madrid board

Real Madrid vice-president Emilio Butragueno convinced his fellow board members on Thursday to back underfire coach Vanderlei Luxemburgo.
 
Directors emerged from the meeting insisting at no moment was Luxemburgo's sacking considered, despite two disappointing results at home to Barcelona and Lyon this week.

Butragueno was the Brazilian's main champion, with insiders revealing the former striker declared: "From the 28th of August, Luxemburgo has only had his squad fully fit and available to him twice."

"With qualification of the Champions League now secured, the team will benefit from not having such heavy commitments."
