Brazil FA blocks Real Madrid's Robinho deal

The Brazilian Football Confederation are refusing to sanction Robinho's move to Real Madrid for £17.25million.
 
CBF legal director Carlos Eugenio Lopes confirmed that Santos are entitled to £28.75million - the sum in the release clause of Robinho's contract.

Lopes said: "That is the amount Santos have the right to receive if Robinho wants to leave the club now."

And he added that because Robinho is negotiating the end of his contract in advance, the striker is not entitled to receive his 40 per cent cut in the release clause.

The three parties - Robinho, Santos and Real Madrid - must reach a common agreement before the CBF will sanction the deal.

Santos do not want to sell Robinho so Real Madrid have two options - pay the £28.75million demanded by Santos or wait until 2008, when the Brazilian international's contract with Santos ends.

Lopes explained that the CBF will not send the necessary papers to guarantee the transfer to Spain even though Real Madrid handed over a bank guarantee for £17.25million on Thursday.

The deposit was turned down by the CBF.

If Robinho joins Real Madrid now without the agreement of Santos he could be banned for up to six months by FIFA and could compromise his participation in next year's World Cup.
