Blanco's late strike stuns Real

Real Madrid were stunned by a late Valladolid goal from substitute Cuanuhtemoc Blanco to seal the share of the points on Saturday night.

The Merengues got off to a dream start with a goal after five minutes that was classic Real Madrid. Figo took off down the right wing and sent a perfect cross over that was headed home by Zidane.

But the lead was short-lived, two minutes later Real were caught napping when Valladolid were awarded a free-kick. The Madrid defence including keeper Iker Casillas had their minds elsewhere as former-Real striker Tote laid on a ball for Fernando Fernandez to smash home.

The home side, clearly annoyed with themselves for letting in such a soft goal, pushed forward lead on the left by Roberto Carlos and their efforts paid off. Real went back in front in the 19th minute with a beautifully-weighted chip from Raul Gonzalez, almost identical to the one he hit against Anderlecht midweek.

From that point on, Real created countless chances on the Valladolid goal but had no luck in finding the net - Pedro Munitis watched as his left foot drive brushed Ricardo's post in the 28th minute in one of the clearest chances.

The second half was a similar story, Real were presented were a whole host of opportunites but couldn't hit the target.

Valladolid leveled the score with two minutes of normal time remaining, substitute Cuanuhtemoc Blanco sending a blistering direct free-kick that gave Casillas no chance.

Real Madrid continue to struggle in the league having picked up just five points from five games, they remain in 11th place but could slip further down the table when the remaining fixtures are played on Sunday.
