Sporting Lisbon defender Roberto Gaspar Deus Severo, or ‘Beto’, is one step away from joining Real Madrid, according to the Spanish press.
The 25-year-old Portuguese international has given Real Madrid his word that he will join them at the end of the season as long as terms are approved by Sporting.
Beto is under contract at Sporting until 2006 but Real Madrid could convince the Portuguese outfit to sell with a tempting cash offer plus the services of striker Rodrigo Fabri.
Beto's agent, Jose Veiga, said on Wednesday: "I don't know when we'll finalise the deal, maybe this week or next. What's certain is that both the player and Real Madrid are in total agreement over the move."
