The PSG superstar has just a little over two months left on his current contract and has so far turned down the offers presented by the Ligue 1 leaders over a renewal.
A move to Real Madrid has been mooted for the longest time now and it could end up materialising at the end of the ongoing campaign, with the likelihood of the French international joining Los Blancos in a Bosman deal increasing.
And, Defensa Central has now come out with a report that highlights the importance of the role Karim Benzema has played to convince Mbappe to make the jump to Spain.
While Mbappe has always desired to move to Real Madrid, there had been some resistance from his father and family over a transfer this summer. The report states that they wanted the forward to continue at PSG for two more years before moving away.
However, Benzema has forged a strong bond with the 23-year-old forward and has been constantly telling him about the club, which has swayed the 2018 FIFA World Cup winner, as per the report.
It is claimed that Benzema and Mbappe have become very close since the former’s return to the national team fold ahead of the UEFA Euro 2020 last year. So much so that Mbappe wants to play at the club level with the veteran striker.
Considering that the Real Madrid superstar is already 34 years old, he might have just one or two more years left at the highest level. And, Mbappe is keen on joining forces with him at the Bernabeu before he retires or moves on.
As a result, the PSG attacker is believed to be pushing to sign for Real Madrid this summer itself rather than waiting for a couple more years as per his father’s wishes.
PSG, for their part, are leaving no stone unturned in their efforts to convince Mbappe to stay. But all things point towards him joining Real Madrid this summer, with Benzema seemingly playing a key role in the decision.
