Beckham will stay at United, says father Ted

England skipper David Beckham is staying at Manchester United, according to the superstar's father.

"I don't think he wants to go anywhere. He loves it at United - that's where his heart is," Ted Beckham said in response to growing speculation that his son is set for a 40-million-dollar move to Real Madrid, the side who knocked the English side out of the Champions League on Wednesday.

Beckham started the match on the bench but came on to score twice in his side's 4-3 win although his heroics were not enough to prevent the Spaniards from winning 6-5 on aggregate.

"On Wednesday after the game he told me he was disappointed, devastated really, about not being chosen for the game."

"I think he should have played, but I would say that being his dad. Sir Alex Ferguson usually gets it right, but this time I think he got it wrong. He made a difference when he came on and hope he stays in the team on Sunday against Tottenham and I hope David puts three past them."

"My gut feeling is he will stay at United. He never said a word to me about Madrid," Beckham senior told the Manchester Evening News.

The England captain has reportedly been a target for Real Madrid and the player has never publicly ruled himself out of a move but Ted Beckham insists that the matter has never been raised between the two men.

"Hes never said he wants to leave United and all this stuff in the national papers is just nonsense. He has been there 11 years," he said.

"No one knows what will happen in the future but I am convinced my son doesnt want to leave Manchester United and it would break his heart if he did go - and that might be when he retires."

"People have been saying thats two big games he didnt start, but against Arsenal not many people knew he was injured, a hamstring I think, and had only trained for one day."

"I would love him to end his career at Old Trafford. He gets on with everybody at the club. Hes known them since he was a young lad. You see that in the way the team celebrates whenever they score. They are a great bunch of lads."
