Beckham outstanding in Tokyo

David Beckham turned in a five-star performance in Japan last night as Real Madrid defeated FC Tokyo 3-0.

The England skipper scored with a spectacular free-kick and enjoyed an outstanding game in midfield for the Spanish champs.

Santiago Solari scored Real's second, while a superb individual effort from Ronaldo rounded off the scoreline.

Beckham replaced an injured Zinedine Zidane in central midfield and didn't let trainer Carlos Queiroz down with a commanding performance.

"I felt strong, I felt fresh," said Beckham afterwards. "It's only a friendly but it was great to score my first goal for Real Madrid."

"I've always enjoyed playing in the middle. That's what's great about being in the centre - you're more involved in the game."

And Real coach Carlos Queiroz added: "He has done what we expected from him."

"In the two games he has played in four positions and he has played very well. Today he played a great game, especially in the middle."
