Beckham misses Madrid training again

David Beckham sat out training on Wednesday as Real Madrid continued its preparations for this weekend's Primera Liga finale.

The Los Angeles Galaxy-bound midfielder has not trained since suffering a recurrence of an ankle injury in the closing minutes of Saturday's dramatic 2-2 draw at Real Zaragoza.

Beckham initially damaged the ankle in England's 3-0 win in Estonia last Wednesday in the Euro 2008 qualifier.

Madrid coach Fabio Capello's team will clinch the Primera Liga title with victory over Real Mallorca at the Bernabeu on Sunday.

After Wednesday's training session, Capello met with club president Ramon Calderon.

Earlier this week the duo announced their intention to try to persuade Beckham to stay at Real Madrid beyond the end of his contract, which expires at the end of the month.

The idea was firmly rebuffed by Beckham and Galaxy general manager Alexi Lalas, and the player will join the Major League Soccer side next month.
