Beckham looks forward to biggest game in club football

Real Madrid's David Beckham hopes to play a decisive role in what he believes is the biggest game in club football against arch-rivals Barcelona on Saturday.

"This is the first game people look out for when the fixture lists come out," said the England captain.

"There's so much passion surrounding the game and the city. There's no game in club football that's bigger."

Beckham has on top form for Real this season and is keen to influence the outcome of the Primera Liga clash at the Bernabeu.

"If the win comes from one of my crosses or corners or a free kick then I'll be really happy," he said on Friday.

"But if it comes from another source like a run from Robinho or Ronaldo or something special from (Zinedine) Zidane then I'll also be pleased."

Beckham has been in impressive form for Real this season, providing a host of assists from set pieces and crosses.

He was one of Real's outstanding players in last season's 4-2 victory over the Catalans at the Bernabeu and said the 'clasico' was the most anxiously awaited game of the year.

"Last year's game at the Bernabeu was one of the best games of football I've ever played in."

"This time the result is not going to make a big difference in the positions because they are only a point ahead of us at the moment but it could do a lot on the confidence side..."

After 11 games second-placed Barcelona have 22 points and trail leaders Osasuna by two points with Real in third spot.

Beckham believes the return of Ronaldo, Zidane and Julio Baptista from injury will help give Real the edge over Barca.

"People are saying that maybe we're not playing the best football and maybe they're right but I think having Ronaldo back will be a huge factor."

"He used to play for Barca and having a huge personality and player like him is really important for us. Having Baptista and Zidane back is also great news."

Beckham added that his recent back problems would not prevent him playing on Saturday.

"It's a problem that's there but it's not a major problem. I'm still playing and I'm still training. It's just one of those nagging pains that's going to be there until I stop playing I think."

"I go into most games with an aching ankle or an aching back. There's not many games where I don't do that but I think most footballers are the same and once the game starts it doesn't affect me."
